The Danger of a Single Story

You need to watch/listen to this TED Talk from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie titled The Danger of a Single Story. It is important for us to think about our stories and those stories we pay attention to with the danger of robbing others of dignity with a single story. We too must pay more attention to the entire story and the stories around us. Let’s ask the same question Chimamanda ask, “What if?”

“How impressionable and vulnerable we are in the face of a story.”

“It’s impossible to think about the single story without talking about power.”

“The single story creates stereotypes…they are incomplete.”

“Stories matter. Many stories matter.”

“When we realize there was never a single story about any place, we regain a kind of paradise.”
