This past week Travis took us to the story of Abraham in Genesis 22. It’s a part of a story that is tough. Gut wrenching. It’s a moment that changes the story, of not only Abraham and Isaac, but the story of God’s people. It’s a moment that, like many of us, question and ask why they must happen.
We have those scenes, those moments in our very own story that we don’t want or like. Moments that we question. The mini-series The Bible portrays this moment in Abraham and Isaac’s story very well.
We can be tempted in this story and in our very own stories, however to seclude these moments of difficulty. Take them out of the context of our own lives and therefore forget the faithfulness of a faithful God. Genesis 22 reminds us-shows us-tells us-demonstrates to us that God provides. When we live in faith, when we live and breath the story God’s story will provide one way or another.
And that’s not always easy.
But, we have this:
“I will make you into a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.”
Like Abraham, we have a choice to live in the promises of God. And when we live in the promises of God we live as if we believe God will provide…even in the difficult, gut wrenching, questioning moments of life.
So, Abram went.
